The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate after an inmate at the Hall County Jail died Tuesday morning.

Tracy Gaither, 54, of Gainesville died while housed in the medical department of the jail due to a pre-existing condition, according to Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth. An autopsy performed at the GBI Crime Lab determined Gaither died of heart disease.

Booth said in an email statement that Gaither was  found unresponsive around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and jail staff performed life-saving measures until Hall County Fire Services arrived and continued the methods, however attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Gaither was arrested February 28 on a Superior Court probation warrant for possession of a drug related object, Booth said.

The GBI was called in per standard procedure, said Booth.
