FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff's Reece Chambers had a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bears a 4-3 walk-off win over East Hall Tuesday night in both teams' Region 7-3A opener at Bears Field.
It as one of two hits on the night for Chambers as the Bears (6-3, 1-0 Region 7-3A) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit.
Est Hall (3-5, 0-1 Region 7-3A) jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single from Alex Brock. It stayed that way until the fourth when Cherokee Bluff's Ben England belted a two-run home run to highlight a three-run frame for a 3-2 lead.
But the Vikings scratched across a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game off Chandler Shope, who went 6 1/3 innings allowing just four hits while fanning five for the Bears. Carson Plumadore got the final two outs for Cherokee Bluff to get the win.
T.J. Smith took the tough loss pitching six innings scattering seven hits and striking out five.
Jackson Kemp, Chambers, and Benjamin Jenkins each had two hits for Cherokee Bluff.
Smith, Brock, Kole Buffington, and Zach Kinsey each had one hit for East Hall. Josh Medina had one RBI for the Vikings.
