LAS VEGAS — The Georgia men’s golf team finished eighth in the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs posted an even-par 288 in the final round on the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club layout to land at 13-over 877 for the tournament. Southern Cal (861) held off Texas (863) and Texas Tech (864) for the team victory.
Sophomore Trent Phillips paced the Bulldogs on Tuesday with a 6-under 66 on the strength of seven birdies. Junior Davis Thompson added a 3-under 69, followed by seniors Calum Masters and Spencer Ralston at 3-over 75 and 6-over 78, respectively. Senior Will Chandler had Georgia’s non-counting score of 11-over 83.
Thompson came in sixth individually at 5-under 211, three shots shy of Parker Coody of Texas. Coody earned an exemption into the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which will take place Oct. 8-11, 2020, at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. Phillips took 16th at even-par 216, while Ralston wound up at 9-over 225, followed by Masters at 13-over 229, and Chandler at 24-over 240.
Georgia will return to action March 20-22 in the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga.
