Athens-Clarke County police look for Carnesville man in rape of UGA student

A man from Carnesville in Franklin County has been identified as a person of interest in the weekend rape of a University of Georgia student.

Athens-Clarke County Police Department investigators said they obtained warrants for Dionicio Guadarrama, 19, on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Guadarrama is wanted for rape, aggravated sexual battery and sexual battery.

"The ACCPD is actively searching for Guadarrama; he may have fled the area," said a post on the agency's Facebook page.

The post also included a photo of Guadarrama, but the photo is a few years old. 

The reported assault occurred on Sunday, Feb. 23 when the 20-year-old female victim the suspect and another person in the downtown Athens area and accepted a ride from the pair. Police said the sexual assault happened in the vehicle during the ride. 

Investigators ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Guadarrama to contact the Athens-Clarke County Police Department at 706-546-5900 or call 911.
