Elberton man dies of injuries after being struck by vehicle on Ga. 77

A pre-dawn wreck involving a pedestrian on Ga. 77 North in Elbert County Thursday resulted in the death of an Elberton man.

Jeffrey Rucker, 58, of Elberton, was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries, said Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond. The wreck happened at 4:06 a.m. Thursday on Ga. 77 (Hartwell Highway) near Beaverdam Bridge.

Rucker was in the northbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle, Almond said.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.

Members of Elbert County Emergency Medical Services, first responders, Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Elbert County Emergency Management Agency and the Elbert County Coroner’s Office responded.
