As the widening project continues along SR 13 in Gwinnett and Hall counties, the Georgia Department of Transportation plans some changes along this corridor this week.

Already, GDOT construction partners have temporarily closed Russell Road. The road will remain closed until further notice.

Also, a lane shift is planned for Thursday, Feb. 20, weather permitting.

"Crews will move traffic onto new lanes in order to continue paving for the widening project," said GOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland.

The overall project includes the widening of SR 13 - more commonly known as Buford Highway -  from Sawnee Avenue in Gwinnett County to Friendship Road in Hall County. The length of the project is 1.53 miles. according to Strickland.

The existing roadway consists of two lanes with a variable width, with only a few locations with left turn and right turn lanes along the project length. The proposed project would widen the roadway to a four-lane urban facility with a 20-foot raised median, four-foot bike lanes, curb and gutter and a five-foot sidewalk on both sides.
