Elbert County rescuers provide aid to injured horse

Sometimes rescue calls take on a different nature, such as one in Elbert County involving an injured horse Saturday.

Somehow, a horse made her way to a flight of stairs and a fell down a stairwell, according to Elbert County Emergency Services.

Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Services and Fire responded to assist.

A veterinarian was on scene and administered a sedative to the horse so she would not further injure herself or hurt anyone attempting to help.

Once her condition was assessed, a plan was developed, and the community was contacted to help rescuers with necessary equipment.

The sedated horse was lifted out of the stairwell by a sling attached to a skid-steer bucket.

The horse suffered a few minor lacerations her face and leg, but no major injuries, according to Elbert County Emergency Services.
