MACON — The Lanier Christian Academy girls advanced to the GAPPS Final Four with a 27-22 win over the defending state champions Covenant Academy Friday night.

The Lady Lightning used a strong defensive effort holding Covenant to 7 points or less in three of the four quarter. They opened the game with an 8-0 first quarter run but Covenant rallied to tie the game at 12 at halftime.

LCA outscored Covenant 15-10 in the second half behind Faith Wasden and Lexie Robertson, who had 8 points each. Robertson also pulled 10 rebounds to help the Lady Lightning hold off a Covenant rally. Wasden sealed the game with two free throws with 6 seconds left to play.

Madison Hughes added 6 points for LCA.

LCA will be returning to Macon next Thursday taking on Central Fellowship Christian Academy at Central Georgia Tech in the semifinals.
