A traffic stop by the Georgia State Patrol over the weekend resulted in drug charges against an off-duty Madison County deputy sheriff.
Deputy Gabriel Dalton, 31, was off duty and in his personal vehicle when he was stopped by a trooper about 8 p.m. Saturday in Hull, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
As a result of that traffic stop, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation charged Dalton with possession of methamphetamine.
“The arrest occurred after information was received by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, which was immediately turned over to the GBI for a fair and impartial investigation,” a MCSO press statement reads. “Dalton was immediately terminated from employment by Sheriff Moore and booked into the Madison County Jail.”
No information was provided about the reason for the initial traffic stop.
Dalton was released on an $8,350 bond. The case has been turned over to the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
“There is no evidence at this time that there were any violations of Georgia law while Dalton was on duty with the sheriff’s office,” the statement concludes.
