While you were out playing in the snow, there was other news happening. Here’s a look at five stories you may have missed from the weekend – plus a bonus photo gallery.

1. The family of 50-year-old Kip Eugene Holland has received over $21 million in a wrongful death lawsuit. Three years ago, Holland was walking along Browns Bridge Road when he was killed by a trailer that had detached from its vehicle and overturned. READ MORE

2. The remains of multiple butchered animal carcasses were discovered on the porch of Athens fraternity house, Chi Psi, Friday morning. The case is now under investigation with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and is being treated as a cruelty to animals case. READ MORE

3. A Partnership for a Drug-Free Hall is hosting a community forum on Feb. 13 which will focus on clearing up any confusion about marijuana and the long-term effects on teens. The forum titled “It’s Just A Little Pot: The Truth About THC, CBD & Pot” will be held at First Baptist Church in Gainesville at 6 p.m. READ MORE

4. The children’s museum, Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK), in Gainesville is celebrating not only its first anniversary since reopening but also a record number of visitors for the year. Over 78,000 guests have visited INK this year since a fire and flood damage caused the museum to close its doors back in September 2018. READ MORE

5. The Braselton Town Council will vote today to decide on increasing the hotel-motel tax from 5- to 8-percent. Other municipalities in the area have already increased their tax, and members of the Town council agree that Braselton’s seven currently operating hotels will see some growth following a higher tax.
