Athens fraternity house finds animal carcasses on porch

An Athens fraternity house woke up to a gruesome sight Friday morning when they discovered multiple butchered remains of animal carcasses strewn across their porch.

According to a police report from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department obtained by AccessWDUN News, the fraternity house, Chi Psi, located off South Milledge Avenue found "a skinned canine which only had approximately six inches of fur remaining on the lower portion of each leg."

Additionally, the report entails three skinned heads believed to be that of raccoons, two dead rats and multiple raccoon feet were also left on the porch along with several pairs of blood-soaked latex gloves.

Athens Animal Control arrived on scene shortly after the discovery was reported to law enforcement around 8 a.m. Friday and recovered the carcasses and gloves for processing.

According to authorities, a similar happening occurred at the Chi Psi house in September 2019 when a deer carcass had been placed on the porch — though it had never been reported to police because members of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity were suspected in that incident but it was never investigated.

Athens-Clarke County Public Information Officer Geoffrey Gilland said this case is now being treated as a cruelty to animals case and is under investigation.

"This is an active investigation and ACCPD asks that anyone with information about the incident to contact Sgt. Joe Geiger at (762) 400-7097," Gilland said.
