ATHENS — The Buford girls won their fourth straight Region 8-5A title with a 47-35 win over Loganville on Friday at Clarke Central High School.
But it wasn't easy as Loganville pulled out all the stops and forced the Lady Wolves (26-1, Region 8-5A No. 1 seed) to find ways to score.
Loganville (20-7, Region 8-5A No. 2 seed) held the ball for the first five minutes of the second quarter, trailing by 7 points. It didn't stop the Lady Wolves as Ashyia Willis scored 12 points and Tate Walters added 11 in the win.
Walters also was named the Region 8-5A Player of the Year. Willis, Blair Wallis and Katelyn Klein earned a spot on the All-Region first team.
The Lady Wolves will be the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A state playoffs and will begin the defense of their 2019 state title on Friday or Saturday.
After leading by double-digits going into the fourth quarter, the Buford boys (21-6, Region 8-5A No. 2 seed) held off a Cedar Shoals charge to win 88-86.
