Some parts of North Georgia could be seeing as much as four inches of snow Saturday.
According to WDUN Meteorologist John Wetherbee, a Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for most of our region until 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
"Snow is expected, mixing with rain at times," Wetherbee said. "The total snow accumulation is expected to be up to two inches, possibly three to four inches in the higher elevation areas."
Wetherbee said the metro-Atlanta area could be only seeing half of an inch with little to no accumulation, but that could still make for some slippery road conditions.
"If you're north of I-20, then that's your best chance to see any snow accumulation at all," he said. "The impact will be slippery road conditions. If you have lots of Saturday morning errands to run, watch for bridges and overpasses; they will tend to get slippery first."
The good news is that temperatures are expected to warm up later on Saturday, allowing any snow on the roadways to melt according to Wetherbee.
"Temperatures will warm up later in the day, so everything will transition to rain before improving conditions take over," he said.
The following counties remain under a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday:
Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield-Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattooga, Gordon, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Polk, Paulding, Cobb, North Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, DeKalb. Also including the cities of Calhoun, Dahlonega, Cleveland, Rome, Cartersville, Gainesville, Marietta, Atlanta, Lawrenceville and Decatur.
