A home in the Mundy Mill subdivision in Gainesville was heavily damaged by fire Friday night.

Division Chief Keith Smith with the Gainesville Fire Department said fire crews were called to the burning house on Pleasant Garden Drive off of Millside Parkway around 10:30 p.m.

"Upon arrival, units found heavy fire and smoke coming through the roof of the home," Smith said in a media release. "Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked to check for hot spots and clear the residence of any smoke. The house was currently unoccupied. There is extensive damage to the rear of the residence."

Smith said about 50-percent of the house sustained damage.

"No firefighters were injured during extinguishing efforts and no damage extended to any other houses due to a quick response and firefighting efforts," Smith said.

Smith said the fire marshal is working now to determine a cause for the fire.
