An early morning crash in Jackson County shut down US129 for several hours and seriously injured one victim. On Thursday morning at approximately 6:55 a.m., a box truck at the Ethridge Road intersection made a turn to enter onto US129 going north. The truck had already crossed over the southbound lanes and was entering the far left lane going north.  According to the Georgia State Patrol, a northbound vehicle, a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Travis Sintal Lawrence, 36 of Athens, struck the rear of the box truck.

Lawrence was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the box truck, 29-year-old Laphael Daunta Cleveland of Elberton, Georgia, was not injured.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation and the crash is still under investigation.

The northbound lanes of US129 were closed for approximately 3 hours.
