Northside Hospital staff are asking for plasma donations after a surge in COVID-19 patients within their hospital system has left their supply "depleted".
According to a press release from Northside Hospital System, staff are looking for survivors of COVID-19 to donate plasma, which will in turn help treat those currently battling the virus. Since the convalescent plasma program was first launced at Northside Hospital, Atlanta Blood Services has collected more than 1,700 units of plasma from 563 donors.
Up until this point, hospital staff have had enough plasma to treat patients in need, but now patients are on a waiting list.
Qualified plasma donors must meet the following criteria:
- Be healthy.
- Be over the age of 18.
- Have previously tested positive for COVID-19 or had a positive COVID-19 antibody test.
- Have been symptom free for at least 14 days.
- Successfully screen as a blood donor per FDA blood donation guidelines.
Anyone who meets these qualifications and is willing to donate may call 404-477-1299 or visit atlantabloodservices.com.
