Gwinnett County Public School employees receive $700 salary boost

Posted 6:30PM on Sunday 20th December 2020 ( 3 years ago )

On Thursday, the Gwinnett County Board of Education approved a one-time salary adjustment of $700 to all active, benefit-eligible employees who were not included in the award at last month's meeting. They will receive their adjusted salaries in January 2021, according to an emailed release from Gwinnett County Public Schools.

In November, those who are paid on the Teacher Salary Schedule, such as teachers, counselors, speech-language pathologists, among others, got a $700 boost to their salaries as well. They will receive it in their December paycheck.

The salary adjustment was done in two phases because School Board members felt the need to manage cash flow for the district. Gwinnett County property tax bills were delayed because of the pandemic and they were modified to include a new levy imposed by Gwinnett County.

“By announcing the one-time payment adjustment in two phases, the district was able to ensure it would be able to afford it without dipping into its end-of-the-year fund balance,” Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks said in the release. "The Board and I are pleased that we are able to extend the one-time payment adjustment to include other categories of employees beyond those paid on the teacher salary schedule.”

The change will affect approximately 9,000 employees and will cost the district approximately $8 million.
