All high school students in Forsyth County Schools will transition to virtual learning on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
System officials made the announcement over the weekend, noting an increase in positive COVID-19 cases as well as direct exposures to the virus on campuses in the district.
The switch to total virtual learning applies only to high school students with the exception of self-contained classes for Special Education students.
Monday is a planning day for staff. Virtual classes begin Tuesday and continue through Tuesday, Dec. 22, according to the statement issued by the school system.
"During this time, we ask that all parents/guardians continue to contact their school if a student tests positive for COVID-19," the statement said.
Extracurricular activities, including athletics, may continue during after-school hours as long as there are no outbreaks among participants.
"For athletics, we request that only family members of our participating athletes and cheerleaders attend during this time period. Attendees are expected to take their temperatures prior to leaving home, wear masks, practice social distancing, and stay home if they are sick," the statement said.
