Georgia gasoline prices have now risen about the $2.00 per gallon mark, according to the weekly fuel price report from AAA - The Auto Club group. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $2.01 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday's state average is a penny more than a week ago, five cents more than last month, and 39 cents less than this time

Motorists are now paying $30.15 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline, which is $10.95 less than what motorists paid in April of 2019 when pump prices hit their peak of $2.74 per gallon.

"Georgians may see gas prices inch up a few pennies this week, however, pump prices will still remain relatively low compared to last year this time,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA.

OIL MARKETS DYNAMICS

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline remains $2.16. At the close of last Thursday’s formal trading session, WTI increased by $1.26 to settle at $46.78 — about a dollar more than the price at the end of last week. Crude prices continue to rise due to increasing optimism that coronavirus vaccines will be available in the coming weeks, which could help boost domestic crude demand. Crude prices increased despite EIA’s weekly report that revealed a surprising increase in total domestic crude inventories by 15.2 million barrels to 503.2 million barrels. The increase in supply could mean that domestic crude production, which was recorded at 11.1 million barrels a day last week in EIA’s report, is too high given current demand trends.
