The Hall County Planning Commission recommended approval Tuesday of a rezoning request for a Gainesville business looking to use part of its building to host weddings, birthday parties and other events.

The owners of Lanier Therapy in Motion on Myrtle Drive near Spring Street say there are several empty rooms in the building that they can host indoor gatherings in. That is currently not allowed in their Planned Office Development zoning, so they're seeking to rezone to Planned Commercial Development.

While no citizens spoke against the request, several planning commissioners expressed concerns about the parking capacity of the building and the operating hours for the venue.

To alleviate those concerns, the owners offered to limit capacity to no more than 120 people, reconfigure their parking lot to at least 40 spaces and have their operating hours end at 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and Fridays and 11:00 on Saturdays.

The request will now go to the Hall County Commission for a final decision on January 14.
