After nearly three years of work, a replacement bridge for the old Browns Bridge on Georgia 369 over Lake Lanier will open to traffic this coming week.
Katie Strickland, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation, said motorists will be able to use the new span on Friday, Dec. 18.
"Crews will begin at 9 a.m. that morning completing the pavement markings and other signage installations that will allow them to move traffic to the new bridge," Strickland said.
The new bridge, which has been under construction since January 2018, has two 12-foot lanes with eight-foot shoulders. The bridge spans Lake Lanier at the Forsyth/Hall County line.
"The project has a completion date of April 2021 and drivers will continue to see work ongoing as they use the new bridge," Strickland said.
The new bridge and surrounding improvements cost $28 million. Scott Bridge Company was awarded the contract for construction.
