A Toccoa woman died and another was seriously injured after their vehicle was in a pair of wrecks at the same location on Ga. 17 in Eastanollee Monday night.

Lisa Gail Wertz, 48, of Toccoa was killed when the grey Kia Forte in which she was riding was struck while turning left from Ga. 17 at Whispering Pines Road.

The driver of that vehicle, Kathy Loggins of Toccoa, remains in the intensive care unit in very serious condition in Greenville, S.C., according to Trooper 1st Class Vance Henry of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

A Honda Pilot driven by Kyle Weir of Lavonia was traveling north and struck the side of the Kia as it crossed the southbound lanes. Weir did not suffer serious injuries and sought treatment on her on in Greenville, Henry said.

The Kia came to rest on the roadway without any lighting.

A second crash then occurred when a grey Toyota 4Runner driven by Holly Black of Toccoa was traveling on Ga. 17 and struck the Kia head-on, Getty said.

Black suffered minor injuries and was treated at Habersham Medical Center.

The Kia then traveled across the roadway and struck a blue Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jeff Dover of Toccoa. Dover was not hurt.

Two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene to transport the most seriously injured, Getty said.

Loggins was flown to Greenville for treatment. Wertz was flown to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, but succumbed to her injuries at approximately 7:35 p.m., Getty said.
