As Gainesville High School ushers in a new era, alumni are asking others to contribute to memorabilia displays.
Gainesville City School Board Member Kris Nordholz, who is also a GHS alumnus, told the school board Monday night their Heritage Committee is looking for items to display, both temporarily and permanently.
"When the plan for the new buildings at the high school came out, we started to realize we have all of these exciting things moving us into the future, and how can we tie the tradition and the history of the 125-plus years of the school system in to the future," Nordholz said.
Nordholz said they were impressed with how much memorabilia appeared for the 125th celebration a few years ago, and they'd like to keep track of those items, as well as pull anything undiscovered out of the woodwork.
All you need to do is fill out a form on the school system website describing the item, its condition, and whether it is a loan, a donation, or just to be put on the archival record. That form is available here.
Nordholz said they aren't entirely sure what will be displayed where yet, but they hope to acquire some interesting items to put on display.
