Original story:

A Gainesville man was seriously injured in Dawson County Monday morning after he was involved in an accident with two tractor-trailers on State Route 53 near Amicalola Forest Drive.

According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, around 11 a.m., 50-year-old Tony Thomason of Salisbury was driving a 2019 Peterbilt tractor-trailer eastbound on SR 53 while negotiating a downhill curve to the right.

Thomason’s vehicle began to overturn, which then struck a 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer that was being driven by 48-year-old Brian Hayes of Rome, GA. Hayes was traveling westbound on State Route 53 when the collision happened.

After Thomason’s vehicle struck the vehicle that Hayes was driving, Thomason’s vehicle continued east and overturned on its side while crossing the centerline of the road. Thomason’s vehicle then struck the front of a 2018 Toyota RAV 4 that was traveling westbound.

The driver of the RAV 4 was 46-year-old Shawn Medick of Gainesville. The release says Medick was seriously injured, and life-flighted from the scene.

The release also states there is currently no evidence of drugs or alcohol being a factor in the accident.

Motor Carrier Compliance Division Responded to the scene, and the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
