Posted 2:59PM on Monday 23rd November 2020 ( 3 years ago )

Gainesville City water employees stopped a sewer spill that was overflowing into a small stream on Dixon Drive Monday.

A customer notified Water Resources Monday morning just before 11 a.m.

Water Resources employees removed the cause of the spill, a blockage of rags, and had the spill under control by 11:22 a.m.

“DWR estimates that about 6,000 gallons overflowed,” said Department Director Linda MacGregor. She added the surrounding and downstream areas were inspected as well, and limited evidence of overflow was present. Field sampling showed both upstream and downstream locations were within state water quality standards.

Signs have been posted in the area and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division was notified, as required by law.
