The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced this week that three local communities were selected to receive a portion of the latest round of Roadside Enhancement and Beautification Council (REBC) Grants.
The cities of Sugar Hill, Buford and Cumming will be given a cut of the overall grant pool of $821,163, and were among 22 recipients selected by the GDOT this year.
"The REBC Grant Program is a great opportunity for local organizations and governments to show pride in their communities by beautifying the right-of-way along state routes," said Georgia DOT Landscape Architect Manager Felicity Davis in a media release sent earlier this week. “We are excited to partner with these 22 organizations to enhance their local communities.”
The City of Sugar Hill, located in Gwinnett County, was granted $11,645 for enhancements to be made along GA Hwy 20.
Elsewhere in the county, the City of Buford was given the maximum of $50,000 to improve conditions along I-985/US23.
In Forsyth County, the City of Cumming also received the maximum grant amount, which will go toward enhancements along Canton Hwy/GA Hwy 20.
GDOT says it has awarded 164 grants since 2008, totaling more than $5 million dollars to governments and community improvement districts around the state. The recipients then use those funds to purchase and install plant material along state routes throughout Georgia.
This year the grant winners, selected from a pool pf 37 applicants, included one county, 17 cities and four community improvement districts.
