The Gainesville Police Department is searching for a male suspect accused of robbing and assaulting a woman at the 1200 block of Crest Park Point on Sunday, Nov. 1.

According to Cpl. Jessica Van from the Gainesville Police Department, the woman was walking to her apartment around 10:50 p.m. when she was allegedly followed by the man. The man then attempted to steal the woman’s purse, however, the woman resisted.

When the woman did not let go of the purse, the man punched her several times. The woman sustained several injuries to her face, arm and leg, according to Cpl. Van.

The man fled the area on foot towards the back of the apartment building with the victim’s purse following the assault.

The woman worked with the Gainesville Police sketch artist to create an image of the man following the incident. Cpl. Van describes him as a black male with a medium build, who is between 5’6” and 5’7”. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a black jacket, black jeans, black shoes, a black knit cap and a red shirt.

Gainesville Police are asking anyone with information on the case or the suspect to call 770-535-3783.
