Brenau University announces plans to close Jacksonville campus

Posted 2:30PM on Monday 9th November 2020 ( 3 years ago )

Brenau University announced Monday that the Jacksonville, Florida campus will physically close and all students will shift to remote learning by July 31, 2021.

The announcement from officials said the shift is dependent on approval from its accrediting agency.

"The number of students in the Jacksonville region taking classes remotely has increased significantly in recent years," the statement said. "All current students in the region are taking courses remotely, and Brenau will continue instruction and support services for those students without interruption."

Brenau University Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Jim Eck said in the statement most students at the Jacksonville campus were adult learners, and the majority of that demographic has shifted to remote learning.

"Going forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a world-class education to residents in the Jacksonville region remotely in a more effective and efficient way," Eck said.

Courses began in Jacksonville in 2015, but the university has been offering online and remote coursework for over 20 years.

The university is best known for its historic women's college in Gainesville, but also has campuses in Norcross and Fairburn, as well as an all-online program.
