Lumpkin County will be getting a new aquatic center, with the goal of opening in late spring or early summer of 2022.

The Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners is partnering with Mike and Lynn Cottrell, the Lumpkin County Board of Education and the University of North Georgia to build the Cottrell Aquatic Center.

The property is located off Pinetree Way in Dahlonega, and the aquatic center will share the property with the new Lumpkin County Elementary School.

Although the design phase is still in the early stages, the facility will have indoor and outdoor swimming with a zero-entry pool, as well as a lazy river and splash activities.

Chris Dockery, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in Lumpkin county, said he has talked to a lot of people in the community and they seem to be excited about the aquatic center.

"I think that this aquatic center is a testament that, when the community is pooling together, and you pool your resources, that you can really do something extraordinary for your constituents and the taxpayers," Dockery said.
