Tigers trounce Social Circle; set up battle for first in 8-A Public

SOCIAL CIRCLE — Commerce advanced to its 24th consecutive playoffs with a 48-22 thumping of Social Circle on Friday in Region 8-A Public action.

With the win, the Class A Public fourth-ranked Tigers (7-1, 3-0 Region 8-A Public) set up a huge showdown next week against No. 6 Washington-Wilkes for first place.

Sophomore quarterback Trey Huff (8-85 yards rushing) ran for one score and passed for two others. Michael Sherman (146 yards rushing) ran for a pair of touchdowns and freshman sensation Sammy Brown electrified the crowd with a 51-yard touchdown.

Commerce started strong with Huff scoring on a 7-yard run after a 33-yard run by Sherman got into scoring position. The Tigers would lead 18-0 at halftime and 26-0 early in the third quarter.

Senior running back Tyelon Brock (10-141 yards rushing) scored on a 5-yard run and hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Huff in the fourth quarter.
