Postponed wetlands cleanup event scheduled for Nov. 7

After being postponed for seven months, the first Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful cleanup event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m.

The sixth annual Great Gwinnett Wetlands cleanup event was supposed to take place on April 25 but was postponed due to COVID-19. Now GC&B and the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources are seeking volunteers to positively impact Gwinnett’s local waterways and wetlands.

According to Schelly Marlatt, executive director of GC&B, they have reduced the volunteer opportunities to 60 so there will not be as many people congregating in groups.

"There will be a lot of litter cleanup, illegal dumping removal, maybe some invasive plants cut back and removed," Marlatt said.

The event will be hosted at Bromolow Creek and Wetlands at Steve Reynolds Boulevard, near Beaver Ruin Road.

"Wetlands are vital in the ecological health of the area, and they provide immeasurable environmental benefits," Marlatt said. "So it's super important for everyone to get involved and come together."
