ELLIJAY — The wing-T offense was on full display at Bobcat Stadium on Friday night.
North Hall’s version of the wing-T was much better, however, as the Trojans rolled to a 33-13 win over Gilmer and their fifth straight of the season.
Of course, Clark Howell was a large part of it. The senior back rushed 22 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Bradford Puryear rushed five times for 65 yards and a touchdown.
But it was a back and forth game in the first half with the Bobcats actually taking the early lead off a Kobe Stonecipher 3-yard run with 5:02 on the first quarter clock to go up 7-0.
The Trojans (5-3, 4-0 Region 7-3A) answered less than a minute later with a 61-yard scamper for a score with 4:09 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Howell broke loose for his first of two scores in the quarter -- a 29-yard run. Gilmer, however, answered almost 7 minutes later when Seth Darling hit Spenser Smith on a 61-yards strike with 2:15 to go but missed the extra point try leaving the Trojans up, 14-13.
After that, Howell took control of the wheel, scoring on runs of 43, 47 and 5 to put the game out of reach. The win leaves the Trojans tied with Cherokee Bluff and Dawson County for the region lead.
