All parallel and angled parking along Spring Street between Bradford Street and Green Street is temporarily unavailable due to work on phase two of the City of Gainesville’s downtown streetscape improvements project.

The parking spaces were closed on Monday, Oct. 26 as crews shifted the Spring Street travel lane to allow for sanitary sewer work. According to Gainesville Public Works Deputy Director Matt Tarver, the closure could last 3-4 weeks depending on the weather.

“Staff will provide updates on necessary road/lane closures and water service interruptions as necessary,” Tarver said.

Phase one of the streetscape improvements project was completed in November 2019 and consisted of improvements along Main Street and Broad Street. Phase two of the project, which began in August and includes work on Washington Street, Green Street and Spring Street, is expected to be complete by the summer.

The City of Gainesville advises those traveling in these areas over the coming months to drive carefully and watch for construction workers and equipment.
