Offense has been the name of the game in 2020, and northeast Georgia has three area quarterbacks who lead their respective classifications in passing with little more than a month to go in the regular season.
And, as a result, a pair of receivers lead their classifications as well. And we can't leave out one North Hall rusher as the Trojans' wing-T offense has come alive over the last month.
It's no surprise that as No. 3 Rabun County has begun to heat up, junior quarterback Gunner Stockton has led the way. Stockton now leads Class 2A with 1,650 yards and has tossed 25 TDs in the process while moving up to seventh in the state overall. As he has exploded, senior target Adriel Clark also has zoomed up the stat sheet and now leads 2A in receiving with 755 yards and a whopping 14 touchdown grabs, which puts him sixth in the state overall.
Right behind Stockton in eighth overall is Dawson County's Zach Holtzclaw, who again leads Class 3A with 1,617 yards and 19 TD passes. Holtzclaw spreads it around and has three receivers, led by Jaden Gibson (484 yards, 6 TDs), that have over 384 yards and average over 15 yards/catch on the season.
But West Hall receiver Rodrigo Lopez leads Class 3A with 687 yards and 3 TDs. The Tigers and the Spartans should put on a show on Friday as the two teams' met in Oakwood in a huge Region 7-3A battle.
After a huge game last week, East Hall junior Clete Cooper now has climbed to the top of the Class 4A chart with 1,528 yards, good for 10th overall in the state. His favorite target, junior Macere Walker, leads 4A with 598 yards, which puts him 18th overall.
And, North Hall's Clark Howell has bulled his way up the leader chart to now lead Class 3A in rushing with 1,027 yards, good for 10th overall in the state, and has sparked the Trojans' four-game win streak in the process. He is averaging 146 yards/game with 6 100-yard games and scored 13 TDs.
Habersham Central's senior quarterback Joshua Pickett has climbed to 14th overall in rushing with 937 yards, which puts him third in Class 6A and just 200 yards behind classification leader Amehre Morrison of River Ridge (1,164 yards).
