Sardis Elementary School principal Neil Yarrington announced his retirement on Friday, Oct. 23.

A media statement from the Hall County School District said Yarrington cited health issues as his reason for stepping down. Yarrington has served the Hall County School District for a total of 23 years, the last nine as principal of Sardis Elementary, which is located in the Chestatee High School cluster.

"They don’t come any finer than Neil Yarrington," said Superintendent Will Schofield. “For over 20 years he has given his best to the students, parents and team members of our school district, leading with courage and compassion. There is no way to calculate the number of lives he has influenced in a positive way. We wish him and his family all the best. He will forever be a Bobcat and always a member of the Hall County team.”

Schofield is currently working on a plan to select the next principal of Sardis Elementary.
