COMMERCE — Coming into Friday night’s Region 8-A Public showdown with an improved Towns County team, Commerce had never lost to the Indians (24-0) in its history.
And the Indians would leave Tiger Stadium still looking for their first-ever victory over the Tigers after Commerce ground out a 55-7 win.
Trey Huff rushed for three scores and threw for another to lead a Commerce offense that came in averaging 35 points a game.
But Towns County (2-4, 0-2 Region 8-A Public) hung tough with the fourth-ranked Tigers early climbing to within 14-7 early in the second quarter on a touchdown pass from Mason Thomas on a fourth-and-long.
But Commerce (6-1, 2-0 Region 8-A Public) exploded for 27 points over the final 11 minutes of the first half to blow the game open. The Indians never recovered.
The Tigers are off next week before heading to Social Circle on Nov. 6. Towns County is also off next week before heading to take on winless Greene County on Nov. 6.
