Habersham County firefighters spent Friday afternoon battling a fire at a garage/barn on Camp Creek Road outside Mt. Airy.

The call, reporting a possible barn fire, was dispatched at 1:48 p.m. in the 4000 block of Camp Creek Road between Ga. 197 and Hazel Creek Road.

“Units arrived to find a 1,500-square-foot garage/barn type structure fully involved,” said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black. “The structure contained several cars and other items.”

Due to the amount of fire, personnel operated in a defensive mode, working from outside the structure.

Units remained on scene Friday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and will be investigated when the scene is cleared.

Emergency personnel have been unable to locate the owner.
