Volleyball playoffs: Lumpkin, White advance in Class 3A; four others ousted

Lumpkin County and White County were the only northeast Georgia teams to advance to the second round of the state volleyball playoffs on Tuesday.

The Region 7-3A champion Lady Indians swept Murray County 3-0 in the first round in the Class 3A tournament. They now will play host to Sandy Creek in the second round on Saturday.

White County, the No. 2 seed from Region 7-3A, knocked off Ringgold 3-0 at home to advance in Class 3A as well. The Lady Warriors nexr will head to Region 5-3A champion Westminster on Saturday in the second round.

Also in Class 3A, North Hall was not able to get past Sonoraville falling 3-1 while Cherokee Bluff lost 3-0 to Lafayette and East Jackson fell 3-0 to Sandy Creek.

Jackson County, meanwhile, dropped a tough 3-1 match to Northview  on the road in the Class 5A tournament.

The second day of the opening round will continue on Wednesday with five more area teams in Classes 6A, 4A, and 2A/A Public getting under way.
