CLEVELAND – The woman who died after falling from the face of Yonah Mountain in White County on Tuesday has been identified as from Bartow County.
Jennifer Randel, 46, of Cartersville is the woman who died after falling from the rock face formation on Yonah Mountain just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, White County Deputy Coroner Josh Barrett said.
A family of three, who had hiked the area several times before, had hiked to the top of the mountain for a day of recreation, said White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.
“EMS and fire personnel had to use a rope system to access the patient, who was pronounced deceased on the scene,” Murphy said. “Due to the location of the patient, personnel had to use the rope system and basket stretcher to lift the victim back to the top of the rock. This was an extremely treacherous area, and the safety of personnel was of concern.”
Personnel cleared the scene about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“This is one of those tragic accidents that can occur while hiking in the trail areas of our county,” Murphy said.
White County Fire Services, EMS and sheriff’s office, with mutual aid from Helen Fire Department and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department, responded to the incident.
The White County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.
While the incident remains under investigation, White County Sheriff's Office officials say there is no indication of foul play.
