ATHENS — Will Richardson scored three first half touchdowns and Clarke Central ran away with a 38-10 victory over Jackson County on Friday in Region 8-5A action.
The Panthers (2-3, 1-1 Region 8-5A) were hoping to get their first-ever win over the Gladiators (3-2, 2-0 Region 8-5A) but could not slow down the Clarke Central ground game. It was an early battle for first place in the region.
The Gladiators built a 24-3 halftime behind Richardson but Jackson County managed to cut into the lead at 24-10 late in the third quarter on a long TD run by Tra Ransom.
But Clarke Central answered that just over a minute later and put the game away with a touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter.
Jackson County came in only allowing 14.0 points per game on defense while the Gladiators had only been averaging 11.2 ppg on offense so far in 2020.
