Softball: Branch clinches 8-4A title; Wednesday roundup

FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch wrapped up the Region 8-4A title Wednesday night in style.

The Lady Falcons, behind another stellar pitching performance from Nikki Harris, held off North Oconee 1-0 at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex. 

Harris tossed a no-hitter and struck out 12 in a complete-game effort as Flowery Branch improved to 16-3 overall. 

The Lady Falcons will take the No. 1 seed into the upcoming Class 4A state tournament.

Flowery Branch got all the runs it needed in the fourth inning when Zoe Johnston-Hadaway singled scoring Lauren Hicks.

Alyssa Wagner and Johnston-Hadaway each had two hits for the Lady Falcons.

Flowery Branch will be back in action on Thursday traveling to East Hall.


JEFFERSON 9,
CHESTATEE 1

Jefferson’s Ravyn Saxon, Taylor Spivey, and Mac Turner combined for eight strikeouts and held Chestatee to just one hit in taking a Region 8-4A win in five innings at home on Wednesday.

Saxon went 2 2/3 innings allowing just one Brook Bachlelier hit while fanning six. Spivey went 1 2/3 striking out two.

Isabel Long went four innings for Chestatee surrendering nine runs on eight hits.

Jeffeson scored four runs in the first, two in the second, and three more in the fourth. Chestatee's lone run came in the fifth.

Spivey had two hits for Jefferson. Livi Blackstock, Turner, Maleia Truelove, Bekah Garrett, Emma Kate Sorrells, and Heather Thomas all had one hit for the Lady Dragons.


MADISON COUNTY 12,
EAST HALL 2

Madison County used an 8-run first inning to grab the lead and then cruised to a Region 8-4A win at East Hall Park on Wednesday.

The Lady Red Raiders added two in the second and two more in the third. East Hall scored twice in the fourth.

East Hall was limited to just four hits, one each from Callie Dale, Alexis Burce, Brooke Hewell, and Abi Mullins 

Maggie Banks took the loss for the Lady Vikings giving up nine runs, only six earned, on seven hits in just one inning. Bailey Thompson went four innings in relief giving up three runs, none earned, on four hits and striking out three.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 16,
WEST HALL 1

Stephanie Condland belted a three-run homer in the first inning to spark the Lady Bears to a blowout win in Region 7-3A action.

Cherokee Bluff plated six runs in the first, three in the second, and seven in the third to invoke the mercy rule.

Condland, Emma Anzaldi, Clarissa McDaniel, Ella White, Reagan Walker, and Emma Sundermeyer all knocked in runs in the big third inning.

McDaniel got the win for the Lady Bears giving up just one hit while striking out two.

Walker had two hits for Cherokee Bluff.

Sapphire Barker got the Lady Spartans’ lone hit.


FRANKLIN COUNTY 4,
COMMERCE 0

Franklin County scored a run in the first on an error and that would be all the Lady Lions needed to get a non-region win on Wednesday.

It was tight game until Franklin scored three runs in the fifth to blow it open.

A single by Anna Taylor in the first inning was a positive for Commerce Tigers Varsity.

Carson Hobbs took the loss for Commerce allowing four runs on eight hits in 4 1/2 innings. struck out three and walked one.

Kylee Taylor had two of the Lady Tigers’ five hits.

Ginger Mitchell led Franklin County with two hits.
