A teenage girl is dead following a traffic accident in the East Hall County area, and the driver of the vehicle is facing charges.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derreck Booth said Madison Nicole Gray, 17, was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla being driven by Shannon Dwight Beauford, 25. The pair were traveling on White Sulphur Road in the East Hall area around 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 when the accident happened.

"According to the preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit, Beauford, who was driving the 2006 Toyota Corolla, failed to maintain his lane of travel. The car left the roadway and rolled, striking a culvert and embankment," Booth said in a press statement.

Both Gray and Beauford were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Gray died at the hospital.

Beauford was arrested Sunday afternoon following his treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

Booth said Beauford has been charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle and additional charges are expected.
