Boys basketball: NHall knocks off Bluff; Lakeview, White, Dawson win

GAINESVILLE — Samir Huete scored 22 points to lead North Hall past Cherokee Bluff, 59-48, in a battle for the No. 3 seed in Region 7-3A.

The Trojans locked up the No. 3 seed in next week's region tournament. The first round will be held at No. 2 seed Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross. The bracket will be released over the weekend. 

After a first quarter that ended tied at 12, the Trojans took a 29-28 lead by halftime. Huete scored 11 of his 22 points, and Clark Howell poured in 8 of his 12 points in the first half, helping North Hall to the one-point advantage. 

The Trojans outscored Bluff, 14-11, in the third quarter and 16-9 in the final period en route to the 11-point win. 

Luke Gunter added 12 points for the Trojans, while Bosko Norman led the Bears with 13 points. 


LAKEVIEW 70,
HEBRON CHRISTIAN 61

Sam Stewart scored 17 points and Declan Weidner had 11 in the Lions win over Hebron at home on Senior Night. 

The Lions (10-15, 5-5 Region 8-A) grabbed a 19-13 lead after the first and never looked back, eventually pushing the lead to 10 points, 54-44, in the third quarter. 

Harrison Cooper scored 10 points and dished out six assists, Conley Millwood hit for 10 points and Holden Cooper chipped in 7 points and three steals. 


WHITE COUNTY 63, 
FLOWERY BRANCH 56

The Warriors jumped out to a 27-15 lead at the half and fought off a fierce Falcon charge in the fourth quarter to hold on to win on the road Friday night. 

The Falcons struggled in the first half, scoring just 15 total points, but erupted in the second half, mainly the final period, to make it a game. 

White County had three players in double figures. 

Silas Mulligan led the Warriors with 18 points, Reece Dockery had 15, and Will Sampson added 13 points. 

Judson Burney was high scorer for the Falcons with 18 points, 14 in the fourth quarter. Trevor Gurske finished with 12 points. 


DAWSON COUNTY 66, 
EAST HALL 47

The No. 3-ranked Tigers (23-2, 12-0 Region 7-3A) completed the region play perfect in the win over East Hall on the road Friday night. 

Jasper Gibson’s 19 points and Mason Barnes 14 paced Dawson’s scoring attack that extended a 33-16 halftime score to a 26-point advantage in the second half.

Zion Cheeks led East Hall with 12 points as Christian Torres added 11.

Dawson will play the winner of Cherokee Bluff/Lumpkin County in the Region 7-3A semifinals on Friday. East Hall will play North Hall in the quarterfinals at Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday.

 

Harrison Cooper led Lakeview in the win over Hebron Christian on Friday at home.
