Girls basketball: Buford clinches, Lakeview, Rabun set up region title showdowns; roundup

SOCIAL CIRCLE — Rabun County set up a one-game showdown for the Region 8-2A crown and an automatic berth into the state playoffs on Friday with a huge 65-21 win over Social Circle on the road on Tuesday.

Rabun County (22-1, 12-1 Region 8-2A) came into Tuesday’s action tied with Putnam County (21-2, 12-1 Region 8-2A) who held off Elbert County 57-53 on Tuesday.

The two teams will meet in Tiger for the regular season title and No. 1 seed.

Rabun County jumped on the Lady Redskins quickly running out to a 25-8 lead after the first quarter. They took a 39-13 lead into halftime and outscored Social Circle 15-5 in the third quarter.

Laken Stiles had a solid all-around game with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists to lead Rabun County. Carley Haban added 11 points and 4 steals for the Lady Wildcats.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 55,
ATHENS ACADEMY 44

The Lady Lions, like Rabun County, also set up a one-game showdown for a region title with a huge road win in Watkinsville.

It was the second straight win and eighth in nine games for Lakeview (18-6, 8-0 Region 8-A) who is tied with No. 4 Hebron Christian (24-0, 8-0 Region 8-A). The two teams will meet on Friday in Gainesville for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

Lakeview led just 15-12 after the first quarter and 28-24 at halftime. The Lady Spartans trimmed the lead to just 39-38 with a solid third quarter but the Lady Lions used a 16-6 fourth quarter to pull away for the victory.

Joelle Snyder led Lakeview  with 15 points while Eliza Snyder added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Elise Roark had 12 points and 5 rebounds, Maddy Towles scored 11 points and pulled down 6 rebounds, while Jackie Allen led the team with 8 assists.


BUFORD 65,
LOGANVILLE 47

The Lady Wolves (24-1, 9-0 Region 8-5A) clinched the top seed and an automatic berth in the state tournament with another home win.

Ashyia Willis paced Buford with 19 points and and Tate Walters added 17 points. Blair Wallis had 14 points for the Lady Wolves.

Buford held the Lady Red Devils to just 25 points through the first three quarters while running out to a 49-25 lead. 

The regular season for Buford will conclude on Friday on the road against Clarke Central.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 56,
DAWSON COUNTY 53

The Lady Bears, despite being in last place in Region 7-3A, showed they will be a tough draw in the upcoming region tournament. 

Dawson County, which came in with an outside chance still to win the No. 1 seed, started strong with a 19-12 first quarter. But Cherokee Bluff (5-19, 2-9 Region 7-3A) rallied with a 15-4 second quarter for a 27-23 lead. The Lady Bears matched the Lady Tigers (13-10, 6-5 Region 7-3A) in the second half to pull off the upset.

Madi Phillips had another big game for the Lady Bears with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Timber Gaither had 17 points to go with 2 steals, and Alexis Mize added 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals for Cherokee Bluff.

Maddie Anglin poured in 18 points to lead Dawson County. Sophia D'Oliveira added 15 points and Marlie Townley scored 10 for the Lady Tigers.


CHESTATEE 51,
BLESSED TRINITY 47

Chestatee closed out its regular season with a road win over the Lady Titans Tuesday night.

The Lady War Eagles (14-11, 6-6 Region 7-4A) will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming region tournament and won three of their final four games with the only blemish a two-point loss to White County.

Emma Easterwood led the way for Chestatee with 16 points. Logan Wiggins had 11 points, Danielle Bull 9, and Bowen Corley 7 for the Lady War Eagles.


JEFFERSON 75,
HART COUNTY 37

The No. 2-ranked Lady Dragons, who already have clinched the top spot in Region 8-3A and a state playoff berth, continued to roll through the region with another lopsided victory.

Jefferson (20-4, 11-0 Region 8-3A) was paced by North Georgia-commit Livi Blackstock with 23 points. Courtney Kidd added 14 points and Deshona Gaither had 10 points for the Lady Dragons, who will close out the regular against arch-rival Jackson County on Friday.


WINDER-BARROW 65,
GAINESVILLE 55

The Lady Red Elephants could not hold a first quarter lead in dropping their sixth game in seven outings.

Gainesville (8-16, 3-6 Region 8-6A) led 14-13 but the Lady Bulldoggs (15-9, 5-4 Region 8-6A) used a 20-9 second quarter to grab the lead and held off several late charges by the Lady Red Elephants in the fourth quarter.

Lauren Teasley had 19 points to lead Gainesville. Sadie Roach added 16 points for the Lady Red Elephants.

Gainesville will close out the regular season on Friday against defending state champion Lanier on the road.


LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 55,
KILLIAN HILLS CHRISTIAN 25

LCA held Killian Hills to 9 points or less in every quarter in taking a big win at home.

The Lady Lightning (15-4) led 13-4 after the first quarter and 30-11 at halftime. They pushed the lead to 49-16 heading into the fourth quarter.

Reece Montgomery led LCA with 17 points. Lexie Robertson added 12 points for the Lady Lightning.

LCA is off until taking part in the region tournament on Feb. 6 at Peachtree Academy.
