Gaining the Edge: Dawson's Reed scores 1,000th point

DAWSONVILLE — Campbell Reed has been instrumental in the Dawson County boys basketball team's success this season. 

The senior guard averaged 24 points in the No. 3-ranked Tigers' last three wins, 27 points against Lumpkin, 16 versus North Hall and 28 in the three-overtime win over Class 4A power Denmark.

"I think a lot of it is just realizing how little time I have left in this senior season," Reed said. "So a lot of that is just making me wanna just grab every moment. This year is just"He's well respected in this locker room. Campbell has a bright 

The Tigers are a pretty potent offense. They're averaging 70 points per game and are at the top of Class 3A in scoring. 

Reed acknowledges that it's not just him but the unselfishness of his teammates.

"This year is so much different ... it's so fun," he said. "You make a couple of shots and jasper and mason both with look for you and make sure you keep hitting."

Coach Eric Herrick says Reed is a smart kid and never lets up.

"The more success he has; the more shots fall for him," Herrick said. "He never checks out, and he's always looking for that next shot. He never lets up, and he's always looking to get us back in the game."

Dawson County's Campbell Reed eclipsed the 1,000-point mark against Lumpkin County on Friday.
