Girls basketball: Wesleyan upsets Buford

NORCROSS — Class A-Private perennial power Wesleyan took advantage of Class 5A No. 1-ranked Buford's offensive struggles on Saturday in a 45-43 win at home.

Buford led at the half, 20-17, but Wesleyan rallied in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead.

Buford answered in the fourth quarter to tie the game but failed to convert down the stretch.

Wesleyan was 12-of-15 from the foul line.

Ashyia Willis led Buford with 12 points, and Tate Walters added 10.

The two non-region foes split the series this year with Buford winning the first meeting, 50-49, in the Dacula Tip-off Classic.

Buford (22-1) will play Loganville on Tuesday at Buford. Game time is 6 p.m.

 

 

Samiya Wayne drives during the Wolves win against Cedar Shoals on Friday. Buford lost to Wesleyan on Saturday in Norcross.
