Two Gainesville men, John Ferguson and the late Tom Paris, Jr., are to be inducted into the Northeast Georgia Business Hall of Fame next month.
Sponsored by Junior Achievement of Northeast Georgia the ceremony will take place at the Chattahoochee Country Club at 6:00 on Feb. 1.
Ferguson, at the age of 23, came to Gainesville in 1964 to go to work for the Hall County Hospital (now Northeast Georgia Medical Center) and became the first hospital engineer in the state. Four years later, he became the youngest hospital administrator in Georgia, a job he held until his retirement 15 years ago.
Paris's life-long legacy of leadership began as class president of Gainesville High School in 1957, followed by induction into the University of Georgia’s Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Societies and the prestigious Gridiron Secret Society. Paris, who died in 2018, was president of Paris-Dunlap Wholesale Hardware, a family business which he joined upon graduating from the UGA. He later founded Paris Management and Investment Company and Paris Storage Company.
The annual event is the local Junior Achievement’s signature program. Inductees are selected based not only on their business accomplishments but also for extensive support of the community, according to a news release.
