GAINESVILLE — Junior Declan Weidner was instrumental in guiding the Lakeview boys basketball team to two straight wins over the weekend.
His 26 and 25-point performances against Commerce and Athens Christian also snapped a five-game skid for the Lions.
"He's really starting to come into his own -- especially in the last few games," Lakeview coach Todd Cottrell said.
The junior do-it-all player averaged 23 points per game in three games last week, including a 26-point performance in Friday’s win over Commerce and 25 points in the win over Athens Christian.
"My teammates gave me great passes," Weidner said. "We kind of simplified things a little bit, so we're all not trying to do too much. It's made things easier."
Cottrell said that Weidner is starting to shoot the ball better.
He has brought a lot of good stuff," Cottrell said. "He works hard and is very skilled. He's one of our better shooters -- probably one of the best in the school's history."
