CLARKESVILLE – Clarkesville residents who want to serve fellow residents on the city council have until noon Friday, Jan. 10, to qualify to fill an unexpired term.
“It’s a little less than a two-year term,” Mayor Barrie Aycock said. “It’s filling out the unexpired term of John Mitchell.”
Mitchell resigned late in 2019 because of moving outside the city.
While Mitchell’s seat is for Post 1, the post is citywide and all registered Clarkesville voters cast ballots for the seat.
Qualifying fee is $18, and those seeking to qualify will do so in the Habersham County Elections and Registration Office in basement of the new Habersham County Administration Building, 130 Jacob’s Way, Clarkesville.
The Special Election will be held in conjunction with the Presidential Preference Primary on March 24. Deadline to register to vote in that election is Feb. 24.
