As part of the I-85 widening, the Flowery Branch Road bridge over I-85 will close Monday for its demolition and the construction of a replacement, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
GDOT says this also means a section of Flowery Branch Road will be closed for six months to thru traffic. The affected part of the road if from Apple Grove Road to Lilly Stem Drive. Temporary signage will divert northbound traffic on Flowery Branch Road to Spout Springs Road and southbound traffic to Braselton Highway.
Flowery Branch Road Bridge is the final bridge replacement in the I-85 widening, Phase 1 project. The project is adding adds 26 new lane-miles by widening both directions of I-85 from two to three lanes between I-985 in Gwinnett County and SR 53 in Jackson County and replaces three I-85 overpass bridges (Spout Springs Road, Jesse Cronic Road, and Flowery Branch Road). All three structures are over 50 years old.
